National Vietnam war veterans day ceremony at Trenton City Hall

On this coming Monday, March 30th, at 11 AM, the Trenton Veterans of Foreign Wars and the City of Trenton will hold a Ceremony of Recognition, Respect and Remembrance in the atrium at Trenton City Hall, 319 East State Street in Trenton, NJ. All veterans and members of the public are encouraged to attend. The ceremony’s special guest speaker will be Colonel Barbara G. Brown, New Jersey National Guard J9, Director of Joint Resiliency. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora and members of the City Council will also be in attendance.

This event presents a significant opportunity to acknowledge and honor the bravery, selflessness, and service of our Vietnam veterans, many of whom did not receive the welcome home they rightfully deserved. As a community, we will unite to ensure that their legacy is remembered, respected, and celebrated.”
A Few Facts about National Vietnam War Veterans Day:
- Officially observed on March 29th each year, National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a national observance in the United States that recognizes veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam War.
- March 29th was the day selected for National Vietnam War Veterans Day because on March 29, 1973, the last U.S. combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam, and the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded.
- On March 29, 2012, President Barack Obama issued an official proclamation stating that March 29, 2012, would be known as Vietnam Veterans Day. The President’s proclamation called “upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the Vietnam War.”
- On December 26, 2016, the Vietnam Veterans Day Coalition of States Council presented a letter to President-Elect Donald Trump and Congressional leadership regarding the establishment of March 29th as Vietnam War Veterans Day, which requested that it be one of the first pieces of legislation passed and signed into law during the 115th United States Congress.
- On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. This act officially recognizes March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
