Fall Lecture Series at Old Barracks Museum: Explore Germantown and Jefferson’s Daughters

October 10th: Michael C. Harris “Germantown” Fall Lecture
“Germantown,” now a busy neighborhood in Philadelphia, was the site of one of the largest battles of the American Revolution. Once a small village outside of the colonial capital, on October 4th, 1777, George Washington attempted to recapture Philadelphia through this battle that often gets brushed over but is now discussed in Michael C. Harris’s book.

October 17th: Catherine Kerrison “Jefferson’s Daughters” Fall Lecture
“Jefferson’s Daughter” shares the story of Thomas Jefferson’s three daughters, Martha and Maria by his wife Martha Wayles Jefferson and Harriet by his slave Sally Hemings. Catherine Kerrison discusses the sisters’ paths and how the laws and customs of early America limited their options. Fall Lecture
Lectures will begin at 6 PM at the Old Barracks Museum, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available.
