Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter, Celebrates 73rd Anniversary with Historic Marker and Community Event

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® the Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter proudly commemorates its 73rd anniversary with a landmark celebration themed “Honoring Our Legacy: Making Our Mark on Trenton.” The event will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, and is open to the public.
Highlighting the day’s events will be the unveiling of a historic marker at 11 a.m., recognizing the chapter’s chartering site at the former Stacy-Trent Hotel, located at West State and Barrack Streets in Trenton. This is where 18 visionary women laid the foundation for a legacy of service on March 8, 1952. A reception will follow at 12 p.m. at the Ellarslie Museum in Cadwalader Park.
New Jersey Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter will deliver the keynote address, focusing on the theme, “She Rose, She Led. She Served: Celebrating the Power of Black Women in Community Service and Civic Engagement.”

“Our 73rd anniversary is more than a milestone, it’s a tribute to the trailblazing women who laid the foundation for generations of service and sisterhood,” said Geraldine Eure, Chair of the Anniversary Committee. “This historic marker honors their courage and commitment, and we are proud to make our mark on Trenton in such a meaningful way.”
The event is co-sponsored by the City of Trenton’s Department of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture and the Ivy League Educational Foundation. The program will also include a voter registration table, encouraging civic participation among attendees.
“This celebration is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when women come together with purpose and vision,” said Tonya Stewart, President of the Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter. “Our charter members understood the importance of service and advocacy, and we continue to build on that legacy today.” This free community event requires advance registration, which can be completed at akaeuo.org/euo_marker25.
