Circus Vazquez has been providing quality entertainment for over 50 years.

They will be visiting Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrenceville from May 15 to 25. You will see an international cast of circus superstars including Chistirrin, the loveable clown from Mexico; Duo Stauberti from the Czech Republic who astounds audiences with acrobatics; Lorenzo Ringenbach and Sacha Cort from France and Switzerland who amaze audiences with precision diabolo juggling; Uzbekistan’s incredible Triple Breath team on the highwire; Duo Sky and their aerial straps act; Bingo Troupe from the Ukraine showcasing their various skills in dance, acrobatics, hoops, and aerial artistry; and music from the live Circus Vazquez Band.

It all started back in Mexico City in 1969.

Alexa Vazquez, who is a fourth-generation performing member, said that her grandparents began the act in really small tents with a family of seven kids.

“They ventured into the United States, building a legacy,” said Vazquez. “Expect the unexpected. Circus brings pure magic. It only comes once a year. The trapeze and the clowns are not something you see in everyday life. The atmosphere the show gives, amazing lighting, a live orchestra, ties it all together.”

The Vazquez family tries to bring the traditional circus into the modernized world. “Every year it changes,” said Vazquez. “We have a functioning tent that feels like a theater. Concession stands. A live orchestra from Mexico City. Every year we try to make the show better than before.”

Though she loved school and went to learn marketing, Vazquez also loved the circus. “At twenty-one, I wanted to live in the circus,” she said. “It’s in my blood to be in the circus.”

At the shows, Vazquez performs using hula hoops. “It’s basically throwing them around,” she said. “Gymnastics.”

She began training for the circus at the age of five, explaining that if you start later, your body doesn’t adjust well. “We have to train every day,” she said. “For me, personally, I like to train two to three hours per day.”

Vazquez begins her day by waking up at 8 a.m. and going to the office around 9 a.m., where she handles social media and interviews—using the marketing skills she learned in school. Then she goes to the tent for the physical part of her day, which includes cardio and weight training. She said her physical routine changes every day.

“I think running keeps me in shape,” said Vazquez. “It’s good that I’m not out of breath. Cardio is the thing I do. The physical training here gets you on a different level. It’s basically abnormal. We have a girl who hangs by her hair. It’s not something you see every day at the gym. It’s incredible! It’s a lot of discipline. A lot of hours to see what you can do. I’m not the most flexible. I choose to do what my body can do. She’s very flexible and does things that show off her flexibility. Everybody is different.”

Five weeks ago, Vazquez said she had a bad accident while training. “I’m very used to having accidents,” she said. The accident kept her out of work for five weeks, but thanks to emergency surgery and physical therapy, Vazquez can walk and perform again. “Therapists are surprised how fast I’m healing,” she said. “My body is trying to get itself back.” They temporarily had to bring in another performer to fill in for her.

Vazquez says she’s not on a special diet but wishes she could eat healthier.

Though Circus Vazquez is very family-oriented, she shared that the doors are open to anyone who wants to join. “We need to keep it alive,” she said. “If anybody wants to run away with the circus, it’s a lifetime opportunity. You learn about different cultures and cities.”

And if anyone is interested in following her path, Vazquez recommends continuing to knock on doors. She said, “Sometimes it seems impossible. There’s a lot of competition.”

Her favorite thing about the show is seeing the kids’ expressions. She said, “Hula hoop, little girls love it. Just knowing they can go to a supermarket and buy a hula hoop.”

Vazquez said her family aspires to bring laughter and fun to every kid in the world for as long as possible. “My grandpa used to say to us, ‘Their joy and laughter keep us going.’ The show is for everyone,” she said. “When I see a show, it makes me feel like a kid again. We don’t want to lose that. It’s our number one priority.”

Circus Vazquez will be at the Quaker Bridge Mall from May 15 through 25, 2026. For more information, visit: www.circusvazquez.com
