Mercer County presents small-business workshop series

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes recently announced a series of six free workshops to help Mercer County small businesses thrive. Presented by the County and the UCEDC, these workshops will be held in April and May in person and via live webinars. Links will be emailed to those who register for a webinar.

Starting a small business is a rewarding but risky proposition. Foundation Academies Youth Orchestra performs at a neighboring Trenton school.

Join Foundation Academies Collegiate Youth Orchestra’s opening performance

On April 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, Foundation Academies (FA) Collegiate Youth Orchestra welcomes all music enthusiasts to check out their opening performance of the Concordia Chamber Players concert.

Foundation Academies is a high-achieving, community-focused K-12 free public charter school in Trenton, offering string orchestra classes as an elective to older students.

The Youth Orchestra was invited by the Concordia Chamber Players to open their final concert of the season. Concordia Chamber Players was in a partnership with FA, in which Chamber musicians visited the campus teaching master classes to FA students. Chamber musicians – Michelle Djokic, David Samuel, Gabriella Diaz and Siwoo Kim – met with scholars in November, talking with them about life as professional musicians, and performing a composition by Florence Price – one of the first Black female composers and the first Black woman to have a piece performed by a major orchestra in 1932.

Consisting of members in grades 9 to 12 who have been playing their instruments for approximately six years, the Youth Orchestra will also be playing a strings rendition of the “Game of Thrones” theme song during their performance this Sunday. 2023 Princeton Jazz Festival and concert

The 2023 Princeton Jazz Festival is back! Presented by Jazz at Princeton, the Princeton University Music Department is holding this one-day event on Saturday, April 15th. Performances include Small Group X, Small Group A, Bird Calls, and many special guests, leading up to the headlining event with the Creative Large Ensemble. 90- Second Newbery Film Festival

Kid filmmakers show their stuff at the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival in Trenton

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is a video contest for kid filmmakers, allowing them to create short movies that tell stories of Newbery award-winning books within 90 seconds. The festival has annually been screening kid-made movies in several major cities for the last 12 years and now has landed in Trenton.

On Sunday, April 16th at the New Jersey State Museum, the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival will be showing movies created by kids from New Jersey, as well as the best from around the country. Hosted by children’s authors James Kennedy (The Order of Odd-Fish) and Chris Grabenstein (Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, The Smartest Kid in the Universe, and more), the festival is free though reserving seats in advance is recommended. Community food giveaway at Greater Mt. Zion AME Church

It’s no secret that food prices are currently on the rise. Greater Mount Zion AME Church, alongside Myra Ashley of Missionary Society presents their second food giveaway of the month for the community on Saturday, April 15th from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
