Fall lineup for Trenton Walks! connects people with nature

Two very different walks are slated to delight those who join the next few Trenton Walks!.
Sunday, Nov. 9, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., a special geology walk
Retired Hydrogeologist Pierre Lacombe, who has 34 years of experience with the U.S. Geological Survey and is an active member of the Geological Association of N.J. will regale walkers with information about the rocks of Trenton on Sunday, Nov. 9. Walkers will learn all about the fascinating geology in and around the City of Trenton as evidenced in many of the historic sites and buildings in the State Capitol Complex, including the Falls of the Delaware, the State Capital, Petty’s Run Archeological Excavation, Thomas Edison State University, the Old Barracks and the Masonic Temple. Come early and explore the exhibits at the State Museum including the “Written in Rocks: NJ Fossil Tales” exhibit on the second level.
Friday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., Abbott Marshlands Duck Waddle
Gretchen Buxton, assistant environmental education staff with the Tulpehaking Nature Center, and Pat Coleman, past president of Friends for the Abbott Marshlands, will guide a duck waddle – the fall version of a bird walk – around the Abbott Marshland starting at 2 p.m.. They will lead a hike through the western portion of the Marshlands, also known as the John A. Roebling Memorial Park. Walkers will explore the Island, Annabelle and Spring Lake Trails, as the group also looks for wintering waterfowl such as the Ring Neck, Northern Pintail, and Gadwall Ducks. Learn about the area’s prehistory, with tens of thousands of Native American artifacts found here, and history, such as the White City amusement park in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The guides will talk about how the Mercer County Park Commission is helping restore the tidal wetlands as a wildlife viewing area. Use Sewell Avenue to access the parking lot near Spring Lake.
See maps of all three walks at the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association’s “Trail Happenings” webpage: https://gmtma.org/trail-happenings/.
