Trailblazing women honored in Trenton for advancing equity, leadership, and sustainable communities

Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter Members

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter, will host its annual Women’s History Month Program on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 12 noon at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie, 299 Parkside Avenue, located inside Cadwalader Park. The event is free and open to the public and will include a formal program, reception, and guided tour of the museum.

The 2026 national Women’s History Month theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” will frame this year’s celebration. The program will also commemorate the chapter’s 74th anniversary and feature a special display honoring the 18 visionary charter members who established the chapter in 1952, laying the foundation for decades of service in the greater Trenton community.

New Jersey Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter (22nd Legislative District) will serve as the guest speaker. She will address the theme, “She Led, She Served: Celebrating the Power of Black Women in Community Service and Civic Engagement,” highlighting the transformative role of Black women in advancing equity, civic leadership, and sustainable communities.

“Women’s History Month is a time to reflect on the courage, resilience, and leadership of women who have shaped our communities and our nation,” said Tonya Stewart, President of the Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter. “As we celebrate 74 years of service, we honor the legacy of our charter members and reaffirm our commitment to leading meaningful change in Trenton and beyond.”

Geraldine Eure, Event Committee Chair, emphasized the significance of the milestone celebration. “Our 18 charter members were trailblazers whose vision continues to guide us today. This program not only uplifts the national theme of sustainability and progress, but also shines a light on the enduring power of Black women’s leadership in civic engagement and community service.”

Honored trailblazers will also be featured in a display celebrating the achievements of pioneering women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. This tribute recognizes their trailblazing contributions and inspires future generations of women leaders.

The honorees are Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, Senator Shirley K. Turner, Assemblywoman Tennille R. McCoy, Prosecutors Camelia M. Valdes and Janetta D. Marbrey, Hon. Annette Lartigue, Surrogate Bernice Jalloh, Hon. Geraldine R. Eure, and Hon. Tahesha Way.

The Women’s History Month Program is co-sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter, the Ivy League Educational Foundation, Inc., and the City of Trenton Department of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture.

This event is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend this inspiring afternoon of reflection, recognition, and celebration.
