Trenton Police Detective Corey Isiah McNair Announces Candidacy for Mayor Before Packed House at Historic Community Gathering

In near blizzard conditions, more than 480 residents of Trenton filled the Fraternidad Cristiana Church at 715 Bellevue Avenue Sunday evening to witness the official mayoral campaign announcement of Trenton Police Detective Corey Isiah McNair.

Despite snow, wind, and freezing temperatures, the community showed up in force. Seniors arrived with canes and walkers, declaring they “wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” The packed sanctuary reflected the growing momentum behind McNair’s message of hope, service, and renewed leadership for the capital city.

The evening opened with powerful words from Mayor Jamila Odom Garnett of Chesilhurst, NJ, who delivered a stirring endorsement, praising McNair’s character, courage, and commitment to uplifting underserved communities.

Hazel Stewart, a respected mother and longtime community voice, told the audience, “Corey Isiah McNair is exactly what Trenton needs in this moment.”

Rachel Haslon, McNair’s seventh-grade teacher, shared a moving reflection on his lifelong dedication to community service, recalling that even as a young student, McNair’s purpose was centered on helping others.

Ronald McMullen, of Positive Force Productions and President of AFSCME Council 63, spoke as both a friend and labor leader, stating that McNair’s work in the community began long before he ever decided to run for office.

Additional remarks came from Rev. Dr. Williams D. Carter of Newark, NJ, Apostle Dei Tatum, of Chariots of Fire International Ministries, and McNair’s longtime pastor, Gloria Osei Yeboah of New Beginnings Christian Ministry, who shared that she received a prophetic word in McNair’s youth that one day he would become Mayor of Trenton a moment that drew applause and emotion throughout the room.

The event was live-streamed to a hundred more viewers online, with Peterson’s Breaking News of Trenton broadcasting the announcement via Facebook Live, extending the reach of the historic gathering across the city and beyond.

McNair, a Trenton Police Detective and lifelong community servant, closed the evening with a message of unity, faith, and forward vision, promising a campaign grounded in public safety, economic opportunity, and restoration for the people of Trenton.

“This campaign is not about me,” McNair told the crowd. “It’s about us, rebuilding hope, restoring pride, and moving Trenton forward together.”
