By Yolanda Danae’ When was the last time you took a stroll through downtown Trenton? Even ahead of the pandemic, the area was not much of an attraction and was in obvious need of a facelift. Long-time residents of the City recall a time when the neighborhood was bustling with people and businesses were booming. While many things have changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: Residents’ commitment to reviving their community. This can also be said for the owner of BeSuited, 21-year-old Evan Harris. In March, news circulated of a young man from Trenton who had, like many others, lost his job due to Covid-19.
By Rachel Ricucci Many businesses and companies have taken a huge hit during the pandemic. One area of concern is the arts industry which Trenton keeps at its heart. The Trenton Journal has put together some voices from people working in the arts industry and following their thoughts on the pandemic and living as an artist. Ryanne Domingues, the Artistic Director of the Passage Theatre in Trenton is very grateful for the support the arts are receiving during the pandemic. “People have been very supportive. Donors have really stepped up” said Ryanne when she talked about the support and the state grants that the theater has received.
By Maryanne Christiano-Mistretta. The Covid-19 pandemic was a double-whammy, destroying people’s health and businesses. Of course, Trenton was no exception, leaving the town at a standstill. More than 4,000 people contracted the virus and more than 80 lives were lost—and counting, including the passing of the City’s former Public Works Director, Luis Mollinedo. According to the State of the City Address 2020, Mayor W. Reed Gusciora stated, “This has been one of the most challenging years in Trenton’s history.” But Trenton’s story is also one of resilience and how the city of Trenton helps it’s growing business community.
