Thunder storm back from early deficit to edge Williamsport 8–6

It’s funny how things turn around.
On a hot Sunday afternoon, the Trenton Thunder found themselves in a 6-1 deficit against the Williamsport Crosscutters in the fourth inning, led by multi-RBI days from Maddix Dalena and Ben Tryon. But as fate would have it, the Thunder would make an improbable comeback, changing the course of the game where they would defeat the Crosscutters 8-6 in the final game of the series at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
The comeback was sparked by Thunder, who capitalized on a sloppy defensive performance by the Crosscutters, who committed five errors that would prove quite costly. Piece by piece, the Thunder chipped away at the Crosscutters’ lead by deploying their version of small-ball.
After getting RBI groundouts from Joek Rivera-Colon and Carsten Sabathia, the Thunder went on to explode for a multi-run surge. By the bottom of the sixth inning, Jake Koonin delivered the go-ahead RBI single to score Parker Loew. Mark Gialuissi followed up by scoring an insurance run with an RBI single of his own to cap off the seven-run rally, and that secured the series-clinching victory.
To say that the Trenton Thunder are off to a hot start would be an understatement. The squad is scorching as they opened the 2026 MLB Draft League season. Currently, the Thunder sit alone at the very top of the league standings. Backed by stellar situational hitting and clutch late-inning relief from closer Nate Bennett, Trenton has quickly established itself as the team to beat early in the summer collegiate season.
While the Thunder have off on Monday, they look to keep their hot streak going on Tuesday (June 9) as they take on the West Virginia Black Bears at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark in Morgantown, WV.
