Conservationist Jay Watson to speak at North Ward Citizens Police Advisory Council meeting

This coming Wednesday night, April 15th, will be an interesting one at the monthly North Ward Citizens Police Advisory Council (CPAC) meeting, as its special guest will be Mr. Jay Watson, who is a Senior Fellow with Conservation Justice.

Jay will make a presentation to attendees regarding his organization’s program of planting new trees in the North Ward and across Trenton. He will also be sharing information on the great importance of Trenton’s residents working together to combat the effects of heat islands and how this health issue negatively impacts residents’ well-being.

Regarding Mr. Watson’s attendance at this week’s CPAC meeting, Conservation Justice at New Jersey Conservation Foundation offered, “Jay Watson is leading a group of nonprofit and government professionals to plant over 1,000 shade trees around the city. The project addresses growing excessive heat conditions and frequent flooding events related to climate change, while also beautifying our streets and cleaning our air. The partnership has planted over 800 trees along streets and parks to date, and will continue through the fall planting season, where the 1,000th shade tree will have been planted.”

North Ward Councilwoman Jennifer Williams added, “Many Trentonians have seen how many trees have been added throughout the North Ward and our capital city. Given the health challenges we have here, these and future trees will help our residents to breathe better as heat islands are reduced. Mr. Watson and his organization have been at the forefront of making sure our city becomes healthier and ensuring that our future will see even more benefits with additional trees. It is an honor to have him come to speak with our CPAC, and I know we’ll learn a lot.”

As always, the CPAC meeting will include discussion of crime and neighborhood issues with the Trenton Police Department and other City officials. Meetings usually run from 5:30 to 7 PM at Galilee Baptist Church at 440 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Trenton.
