Crystal Feliciano and Jenna Figueroa Kettenburg voted in as Trenton council president and vice president

At the Thursday, January 4, 2024, Trenton City Council reorganization meeting, Councilwoman At-Large, Crystal Feliciano, and South Ward Councilwoman, Jenna Figueroa Kettenburg were unanimously voted into the position of Council President and Council Vice President.

When it came time for West Ward Councilwoman, Teska Frisby, who previously served as city council president to casted her vote for Feliciano she took a cryptic pause before stating, “In the spirit of unity—and even though I wasn’t asked—I’m going to vote yes.” As former vice president, Feliciano was given first nomination as council president. Each Council member received a 7 to 0 vote. Some of the Council President’s and Vice Presidents responsibilities include:

• The Council President conducts council meetings
• In the absence of the Council President, the Council Vice President conducts council meetings
• Have a set agenda
• Public comments

Council President Feliciano said, “I look forward to continuing to work with my Council colleagues, the Mayor, and the Administration to help move Trenton in the right direction.  One day, one street, one neighborhood at a time…One Trenton!”

The vote took immediate effect, following the vote Council President Crystal Feliciano conducted the evening’s meeting.

“Unification is what our goal is and last night’s vote proves we are continuing to move in the right direction. I look forward to more positive accomplishments together and to helping rebuild our City,” said Council Vice President Figueroa Kettenburg. Look for campaign season to begin heating up as some council members have already put in their bid for reelection. In November residents in the south, north, west, and east wards will have the opportunity to vote for council candidate to represent their district for a new term.
