Thunder victorious over West Virginia in final home game of 2026
The Trenton Thunder defeated the West Virginia Black Bears 8-6 in an action-packed contest. The Black Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Zack Thompson hit a two-run double off Thunder starter Jackson Thomas. However, Trenton answered immediately in the bottom half. Capitalizing on four walks, a wild pitch, and a Daniel Murillo RBI single, the Thunder plated three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
Trenton added a run in the bottom of the third on a Michael Whooley RBI single and blew the game open with a three-run fourth inning. That frame featured a sacrifice fly from Pierre Cabral followed by a two-run double from William Lybrook to extend the lead to 7-2. Brayden Fraasman pushed the advantage to 8-2 in the fifth inning by crushing a solo home run to left field.
West Virginia rallied in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of an error and drawing two walks to load the bases. Noah Jouras brought home a run with a single, Tyvon Moore drove in two more with a single, and Elijah Cook added a force-out RBI to cut Trenton’s lead to 8-6.
Despite the pressure, the Thunder bullpen held firm over the final three innings. Pitchers Justin Williams and Joe Colucci combined to retire nine of the last ten Black Bears batters, with Colucci earning his fourth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory. Jackson Thomas earned the win for Trenton, while Black Bears starter Ryan Ure took the loss.
