Trenton Walks! Joins with Reconnecting Trenton’s Riverfront Campaign on Sat., Dec. 6 to Explore Redevelopment Options

Trenton Walks! and the Reconnecting Trenton’s Riverfront Campaign will host an on-the-ground exploration of an inland option to redevelop downtown Trenton and reconnect people to the city’s riverfront this Saturday, Dec. 6.
The realignment of Route 29, which the campaign calls the Draft Preferred Alternative #2 – the Inland Alignment Option, is one possible way to reconfigure the limited-access expressway that divides most of Trenton from the Delaware River. This is the preferred route of the Reconnecting Trenton’s Riverfront Campaign, which New Jersey Future is leading.
The Dec. 6 walk is designed to help residents, advocates, and local leaders envision the future boulevard, potential open spaces, and connections to the riverfront. This redevelopment project will transform downtown Trenton with an exciting mix of new and existing land uses while adding roughly 26 acres of parkland and trails to and along the Delaware River.
The 2.5-mile walk will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, with walkers convening at Cooper’s Riverview, 50 Riverview Plaza (with plenty of free parking).
Geology in Trenton Walk, Sat., Dec. 13.
Don’t forget the Trenton Walks! event that follows on Sat., Dec. 13, when Retired Hydrogeologist Pierre Lacombe, who has 34 years of experience with the U.S. Geological Survey and is an active member of the Geological Association of N.J., will regale walkers with information about the rocks of Trenton during the 1.1-mile walk in downtown Trenton.
Walkers will learn all about the fascinating geology in and around the City of Trenton as evidenced in many of the historic sites and buildings in the State Capitol Complex, including the Falls of the Delaware, the State Capitol, Petty’s Run Archeological Excavation, Thomas Edison State University, the Old Barracks, and the Masonic Temple.
Walkers should meet at the front lawn of the State Museum at 205 West State Street. Free parking is available on West State Street or in lots adjacent to the museum. After the hike, explore the exhibits at the State Museum (free admission), including the “Written in the Rocks: N.J. Fossil Tales” exhibit on the second level.
The Trenton Green Team is Trenton Walks! executive sponsor, and the other key supporter of the walking program is the Mercer County Action Team of the Circuit Coalition.
