Velotric, an electric bicycle manufacturer and distributor, participated in an E-Bike Demonstration and Education Day at the New Jersey State House on Thursday, October 29, at Assemblywoman Tennille R. McCoy’s invitation. The event provided lawmakers, government officials, and law enforcement representatives with an opportunity to learn more about electric bicycle technology and the distinctions between traditional e-bikes and higher-powered electric vehicles.

As New Jersey continues to evaluate its approach to e-bike safety and regulation, the demonstration offered attendees a firsthand look at how electric bicycles operate, including differences in motor power, speed capabilities, pedal assist, and throttle functionality.

Velotric representatives demonstrated electric bicycle technology, explained the capabilities and limitations of different models, and discussed how traditional e-bikes differ from higher-powered vehicles such as e-motos. Attendees included members of the community, New Jersey State Legislators, and Highway Patrol Officers, many of whom took the opportunity to test out the different Ebikes. Models available for testing spanned Velotric’s 3-wheel, Triker, comfort commuter Ebikes including the Discover 3 and mid-drive Discover M, the Tempo lightweight city Ebike, GoMad E-cargo bike, as well as folding E-bikes and mixed-terrain models built for on- and off-road use.

“Education is an important part of the conversation around e-bike safety and regulation. Helping policymakers and the public understand how different electric vehicles operate can support more informed discussions about their appropriate use and the needs of riders,” said Zhan Tang, General Manager of North America at Velotric.

As electric bicycles and other electric-powered vehicles become increasingly visible on roads and shared pathways, understanding the distinctions between vehicle types remains an important part of conversations around safe riding, appropriate use, and regulation.

Velotric supports continued education around electric bicycle technology and encourages informed discussions that recognize the differences between traditional e-bikes and higher-powered electric vehicles.
