Building a Brighter Future for Trenton: A Veteran’s Call to Action, Op-Ed by Kadja Manuel

As an army veteran, a proud resident of Trenton’s Historic North Ward, and a candidate for Trenton City Council, North Ward, I am driven by a deep sense of duty – a duty to serve my community, to fight for justice, and to uphold the values that make our nation great. This month marks 11 years since I rose my hand to serve in the U.S. Army and to defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Throughout my life, whether working in the nonprofit sector, serving in the Army, or currently as a federal employee, I have always been a man of service. Now, I look forward to continuing this legacy as your North Ward Councilman.
Our city, like many others across the country, stands at a crossroads. We face challenges that demand bold solutions and leadership that prioritizes the needs of working-class families, marginalized communities, and the most vulnerable among us. We cannot afford to stand still or to settle for the status quo. The time for change is now. Trenton City
My vision for Trenton is one of unity, opportunity, and empowerment. It is a vision where every individual has access to quality healthcare, where economic prosperity is shared by all, and where social justice is not just a promise but a reality. It is a vision that honors our past while embracing a future that is fair, inclusive, and sustainable for generations to come. Trenton City
As a young progressive candidate, I bring a fresh perspective and a commitment to action. I believe in listening to the voices of our community, engaging with residents on the issues that matter most to them, and working collaboratively to find solutions that benefit us all. I believe in the power of unity, in the strength of diversity, and in the promise of a government that works for the people, not against them.
My campaign is not just about winning an election; it is about building a movement for change. It is about rallying individuals from all walks of life to join together in a common cause – the cause of creating a better, brighter, and more equitable future for Trenton and its residents. It is about standing up to the forces of division, inequality, and injustice, and saying with one voice: “We deserve better, and we will fight for it.” Trenton City
This race is crucial for the future of Trenton. My opponent, a known right-wing conservative and former Mercer County Republican Party leader, is running on a platform that threatens to undermine the progress that we, as Trentonians seek. We must not allow divisive and harmful rhetoric to win on the ballot this November. It is imperative that we come together to reject policies that would set us back and instead champion a vision of unity, inclusivity, and forward-thinking solutions. The stakes are high, and the choice is clear: we need leadership that prioritizes the well-being of all residents, not just a select few.
I invite you to join me in this important journey. Whether you are a longtime resident, a newcomer to our city, or someone who simply believes in the power of democracy and the promise of progress, your voice matters, your support is crucial, and your involvement can make a real difference. Trenton City
Together, let us build a brighter future for Trenton – a future where opportunity knows no bounds, where justice is blind to prejudice, and where the promise of America shines bright for all to see.
With hope, determination, and gratitude,
Candidate for Trenton City Council, North Ward
A Son of Trenton
