Mercer County Prosecutor’s office conducts inaugural ACED operation

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey reported today that in coordination with the newly established Trenton Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit and the New Jersey State Police, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office conducted the inaugural ACED (Awareness & Community Education for Drivers) operation in the City of Trenton on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The ACED initiative is a data-driven enforcement program designed to reduce serious and fatal pedestrian and motor vehicle collisions through highly visible, data-informed policing. The program selects enforcement locations based on collision trends and roadway risk assessments. For this first deployment, operations focused on the Route 129 and Route 29 corridors, both identified as high-priority areas for crash reduction.
Throughout the operation, officers conducted motor vehicle stops for violations deemed most likely to contribute to hazardous driving behavior. The operation yielded the following results:
• 185 motor vehicle violations
• Three arrests, consisting of one controlled dangerous substance arrest and two arrests for driving under the influence
• Three engineering improvements identified to enhance roadway safety
In addition to enforcement activities, participating officers conducted an environmental assessment of the enforcement zone to identify safety concerns. Officers documented three engineering recommendations to improve pedestrian and motorist safety and will submit them to the appropriate municipal, county, or state departments for review.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, together with its partner agencies, remains committed to implementing evidence-based strategies that advance traffic safety, reduce roadway fatalities, and strengthen public awareness of motor vehicle laws.
