Prescriptions Disposal Made Easy on National Take-Back Day

Mark your Fall calendars. Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announced the opportunity to dispose of unused and expired prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

The goal is to help residents rid their medicine cabinets of outdated and easily abused opioid painkillers and other unneeded prescription medications. Residents can quickly drop off unused and expired prescription pills, with no questions asked, by bringing them to the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street in Trenton between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

“This event can help residents easily rid their homes of dangerous, unneeded medications that could be a gateway to addiction or accidental use. Removing unnecessary medicines from the house is a crucial step to ensuring safety at home,” said Kemler.

Proper medication disposal also reduces environmental risks, as medicines flushed down the drains can inadvertently enter local drinking water supplies. “The best and most environmentally safe way to dispose of your old prescriptions is through a drug take-back program,” noted Sheriff Kemler. So, gather up your old prescriptions, whatever they are, and make your home safer and healthier, too,” added Sheriff Kemler.

This disposal event will collect vape pens and other e-cigarette devices only after removing the batteries. The drug disposal event cannot accept syringes, sharp instruments, liquid medications, or solutions.
