Trenton celebrates Hibbert Group’s 145 years in the Capital City

Mayor W. Reed Gusciora visited the Hibbert Group this week to celebrate the company’s 145th anniversary and tour its longtime Trenton headquarters, recognizing one of the Capital City’s oldest private companies and its evolution from a local printing business into a national provider of marketing, technology, fulfillment and logistics services.
The tour was led by Hibbert Co-Chairman and CEO Timothy Moonan, whose family has owned the company for nearly 90 years. Moonan serves as Co-Chairman alongside his brother, Thomas Moonan. Their grandfather, J.J. Moonan, purchased the company from the Hibbert family in 1937, beginning a family stewardship that continues today.
Founded in Trenton in 1881 by newspaper typesetter William Hibbert as the Hibbert Printing Company, Hibbert has remained rooted in the Capital City while continually adapting to changes in technology and the marketplace. Today, the company provides integrated services to clients across a wide range of industries, from pharmaceutical and life sciences companies to major national organizations including the National Football League.
“Hibbert is a remarkable Trenton success story,” said Mayor Gusciora. “Here is a company that started in our city 145 years ago, has been guided by the same family for nearly nine decades, continued to innovate from one generation to the next, expanded its reach across the country, and still proudly calls Trenton home. That is something worth celebrating.”
During the tour, Mayor Gusciora was joined by Economic Development Director Yolanda Vazquez and Chief of Staff Jim Beach. The City delegation met with Hibbert leadership and employees and viewed the company’s Trenton operations firsthand. Hibbert employees welcomed the Mayor and City officials with a special banner commemorating the company’s 145 years of innovative excellence.
Over its history, Hibbert has repeatedly transformed its business to meet the needs of its customers. Beginning as a commercial printer, the company expanded into warehousing, distribution and fulfillment before developing capabilities in database management, digital communications, customer engagement and technology-driven marketing services.
Hibbert began working with the National Football League in the 1970s, providing services that have included custom publishing, youth programs, event support and fulfillment. The company later developed extensive expertise in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries, where its services have grown to include highly regulated fulfillment, pharmaceutical sample management and support for clinical trials.
“What impressed me as much as Hibbert’s history was its workforce,” Gusciora said. “Walking through the facility and meeting the people who make this operation work every day was a reminder that Trenton has businesses and employees right here in our city doing work that reaches customers throughout the nation.”
The Mayor said Hibbert’s longevity also demonstrates the importance of established Trenton businesses to the city’s economic future.
“When we talk about economic development, we naturally talk about attracting new investment to Trenton, but retaining and supporting the businesses that have invested here for generations is every bit as important,” Gusciora said. “Hibbert demonstrates that a company can grow, innovate, compete nationally and still call Trenton home.”
The Hibbert Group remains headquartered at 400 Pennington Avenue in Trenton, maintaining its connection to the city where the company was established nearly a century and a half ago.
“Trenton has always been a city that makes things, builds things and gets things done,” Gusciora added. “Hibbert has been part of that tradition since 1881. We congratulate Tim and Tom Moonan, the Moonan family, and especially the generations of Hibbert employees who have made 145 years of success possible. We are proud that after all these years, Hibbert still calls the Capital City home.”
