Mayor Gusciora welcomes CCRC approval of small business attraction award for Rojo’s Roastery

Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today welcomed the Capital City Redevelopment Corporation’s approval of a Small Business Attraction Program award of up to $493,000 to support the establishment of Rojo’s Roastery at 102 South Warren Street in Downtown Trenton. The award was approved by the CCRC Board during its June 23 meeting under the Corporation’s Small Business Attraction Program. 

Rojo’s Roastery, an established New Jersey coffee roaster and bakery owned by entrepreneur Joanne Canady-Brown, will transform the former Starbucks location into a commercial coffee roasting operation, bakery, and neighborhood café, bringing new investment, new jobs, and new energy to Downtown Trenton.

“I am delighted to welcome Rojo’s Roastery to Downtown Trenton and congratulate the Capital City Redevelopment Corporation on its approval of this important investment,” said Mayor Gusciora. “The Small Business Attraction Program is an important economic development initiative that helps attract quality businesses to our Capital City, and Rojo’s is exactly the kind of destination that will strengthen our downtown and serve residents, workers, and visitors alike.”

The project includes approximately $933,000 in construction and equipment investment and will establish Rojo’s new roasting, baking, and retail operations in the heart of the Capital District. The CCRC award will help bridge the financing needed to bring the project to fruition. 

Mayor Gusciora noted that Rojo’s investment represents another positive step in the continued revitalization of Downtown Trenton.

“Every new storefront, every new employer, and every new destination adds to the momentum we are building throughout Downtown Trenton,” Mayor Gusciora said. “Rojo’s has earned an outstanding reputation throughout Central New Jersey, and we’re excited that they have chosen our Capital City for their next chapter.”

The Small Business Attraction Program provides reimbursable grants to eligible businesses that establish or expand locations within Trenton’s Capital District. By supporting projects that activate vacant commercial properties and encourage private investment, the program helps advance economic development and strengthen Downtown Trenton. 

Mayor Gusciora also thanked the CCRC Board and staff for their continued partnership in supporting investment and redevelopment in New Jersey’s Capital City.
