Mercer Council to host 10th annual International Overdose Awareness Day Event

Mercer Council will host its 10th Annual International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) event on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Veterans Park in Hamilton, NJ.
International Overdose Awareness Day provides an opportunity for communities to come together to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, support individuals and families affected by substance use, and raise awareness about prevention, treatment, recovery, and available resources.
The evening will bring community members together in remembrance while also highlighting the importance of hope, recovery, and continued action to prevent overdose deaths. The event will feature a guest speaker, as well as opportunities for attendees to connect with local organizations and learn about substance use prevention, treatment, recovery, and family support resources.
Mercer County continues to feel the impact of the overdose crisis. By creating a space for connection and remembrance, IOAD shines a light on both the pain of loss and the resilience of recovery. This year’s global theme, “25 Years On. Still Needed,” reminds us that overdose continues to affect communities around the world. Yet overdose can be prevented. We know how to reduce risk and help keep people safe. By speaking openly, learning from one another, and treating each other with care and respect, we can build a future where fewer lives are lost.
“Hamilton Township is proud to host the 10th Annual International Overdose Awareness Day at Veterans Park,” said Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin. “The overdose crisis has impacted far too many families in our community and across Mercer County. Events like this are vital for honoring the memory of those we have lost, supporting neighbors in recovery, and ensuring that our residents have access to the life-saving resources and compassionate support they need.”
Community members, families, individuals in recovery, prevention professionals, and local organizations are encouraged to attend. Community members may also submit memorial tributes in honor of a loved one lost to overdose.
